Fukuoka) is a multidisciplinary artist, writer and educator based in Mparntwe (Alice Springs). Her work merges the traditions of hard-edge abstraction, Abstract Expressionism and her Japanese heritage. Nottage is devoted to expressing the beauty that lies in the tension of opposites, considering polarities such as light and dark; hard and soft; masculine and feminine. Through observing and interacting with the desert ecology in which she resides, Nottage absorbs the phenomena of her natural surroundings and expresses her fascination with the planet through her sculptures and paintings. With a sensitivity inherited from her Japanese lineage of kimono makers, Nottage connects to an abstract language of triangles, form and space. Through a system of intuitive mathematics, her art reveals where she has been and where she will go. Her works are an ode for her reflections on suffering, sacrifice, grace and strength. Nottage oscillates between the methodical and the intuitive; a mental, physical and spiritual dance which is a process of self-enquiry and introspection. Erica lives and works on Arrernte Country.
